Control and trap the ball when receiving passes from the air.

Step by Step

  1. Position yourself early to get in the path of the ball, keeping your eyes on it.
  2. Prepare your receiving foot by raising it slightly and angling it downward.
  3. As the ball approaches, cushion it by pulling your foot back slightly on contact.
  4. For low balls, use the inside or sole of your foot. For high balls, use your thigh or chest.
  5. Keep the ball close to your body after control to maintain possession.

Pro Tips

Absorb the ball's momentum. Cushion the impact. Receive with the foot furthest from the defender. Practice with different parts of your body. The first touch should set you up for your next move.
